Fluminense Rebounds From Heartbreak, Take Third Place 3-0

Less than 24 hours after their dramatic penalty shootout loss to Manchester City, Fluminense locked up third place with a 3-0 win over FC Dallas at the Prospects Cup.

The breakthrough came in the 18th minute, when Matheus Pedro Barreto latched onto a loose ball in the box and slotted it past Dallas goalkeeper Julian Eyestone.

From then on, Fluminense was content to sit in the low block and absorb pressure; while Dallas and Keyrol Figueroa kept attacking, they couldn’t break through the Brazilian backline.

In the final minutes of the match, Gustavo de Oliveira would score a brace for his fourth goal of the tournament. As Dallas poured forward chasing the game, Victor Kauan Sousa added a third in the closing seconds.

Fluminense closes out the Prospects Cup 4-0-1 with their only loss being Thursday’s defeat at the hands of Man City. FC Dallas goes home in fourth place with a 3-0-2 record.
