Goalkeepers Shine On Day Three Of The Prospects Cup
Group Play wrapped up with eight strong matches on Wednesday which saw 28 goals hit the back of the net and four finalists confirmed to face-off in Thursday’s Finals.
The LA Galaxy and Weston got the day started with a four goal thriller. The Galaxy won 3-1, but it was not enough to earn them a spot in the Domestic Finals.
In the next match, GPS faced off against Orlando City. The Massachusetts team came out on top 2-0, earning their first win of the tournament.
Manchester City punched their ticket to the International Finals in the next match with a 4-0 thumping of Borussia Dortmund.
Tuzos and Sockers FC were up next with the former side coming out on top 2-0 to earn their second win of the Prospects Cup. They might not be advancing to the finals, but they put in a strong showing in Kissimmee.
AS Roma took on Real Madrid with a chance to keep their hopes for advancement alive but fell 1-0 as they were unable to break through the defense of Las Blancas.
The next match was an U-12 edition of Mexico’s famous Clasico Nacional, with Chivas and Club America facing off on the pitch; the Guadalajara side triumphed over their rivals 4-1.
In the next match Fluminense punched their ticket to the International Finals with a commanding 4-0 win over Boca Juniors. Gustavo de Oliveira potted a hat trick for the Brazilian side.
In the final match of the day, FC Dallas earned a place in the final four with a 2-0 win over Real Jersey. They’ll be meeting up with Weston FC in the first match on Thursday.
12 of the 16 Prospects Cup teams are heading home but, the remaining four are one step closer to the championship.
